Trail Running Blog Tag

Six quick questions.

1. Most memorable moment on the trails…
This was a weekend run we did in early September from Michigan Bluff to Robinson Flat. Nearing the bottom of Eldorado Canyon with Chris O’Conner we ran straight into a little bear. Little Bear and I are pictured at left. The bear stared at us, we started at the bear. Then we posed for photo with the bear. After a while, the little bear got bored. The next day while running alone up in the high country through Duncan Canyon I met Ann Trason who was also running solo. We ran together for a couple of miles and chatted as we went. It was very special to run with such an amazing athlete on the Western States Trail.

2. Best new trail I discovered in 2007…
The Tahoe Rim Trail. I paced my buddy Mike Hoffman along the 22 mile section from Mount Rose to Spooner Lake. This section of trail is scenic beyond belief.

3. My best performance of the year was…
The Sierra Nevada Endurance Run –a trail double marathon held in Folsom in September. I bettered my time from last year by one and a half hours and for the first time in my life I finished top 10 in a race and reached the podium in my age group. I owe it all to hard training, diet and Scott Dunlap getting his ass lost at No Hands Bridge.

4. I do not know how I previously survived without…
Vibram Five Finger Sprint shoes. They have become my defacto #1 footwear of choice. There is no middle ground on these, people either think they are ugly as sin or cute as hell. I think they are sexy, I’ll be wearing them the next time I go on a date.

5. The person I would most like to meet on a trail in 2008...
Anton Krupicka. Not only he is a phenomenal runner, he seems to have an incredible thirst for adventure. Through his words and actions he is an excellent ambassador for trail runners, younger trail runners in particular.

6. The race I am most excited/scared about in 2008 is…
I am incredibly excited that Caballo Blanco has allowed me to join him and Club Mas Loco to travel to Copper Canyon in Mexico to run the Copper Canyon Ultramarathon. This is one event that is not about the run, it is about the exploring, the Korima, the chance to run free and be free.
